Reims France

Pounded to rubble by artillery during World War I, Reims was tenaciously reconstructed into a lovely, graceful city. Along with Epernay, it is the most important centre of Champagne production and a convenient base for exploring the Montagne de Reims Champagne Route. The Cathédrale de Notre-Dame is a Gothic masterpiece crowned and ornamented with several dreamlike windows. 25 kings of France received their crowns and their legitimacy beneath its vaulted roof. Nearby, there is the Basilique St-Remi, a Gothic renovation of Carolingian Romanesque church reputed to contain the tombs of France’s earliest kings. Reims' champagne houses open their doors for tours and tastings. Experiencing the underground life of champagne caves is a must for any visit to Reims. Place Drouet d’Erlon is crammed with brasseries serving tasty crepes and regional dishes. The outskirts of the town are very picturesque, you can see vineyards and take a walk in piedmont regions.
