It is the capital of the prefecture built in the middle of a valley surrounded by Artemisio, Parthenios and Mainalo mountains. It is the administrative, economic, commercial and transportation center of central and south Peloponnese. * What to see in the city: - Areos central square with the Judicial Mansion and the statue of Theodoros Kolokotronis. His bones are still preserved on the base of the monument.
